Message from the Director:

The field of justice administration has seen great changes. There is an increased emphasis on public safety following the events of September 11, 2001. The effects of Katrina have impressed upon everyone the need for greater joint planning among members of the criminal justice community to ensure continuity in the operation of the criminal justice system. Our reliance on the internet and computers has continued to grow so there is an increasing awareness that as we integrate information systems between criminal justice agencies, we also need to better protect those systems. All of this has substantially increased the need for enlightened and knowledgeable leadership in the criminal justice system.

In response to this evolving environment Norwich University and its School of Graduate Studies have developed an online master's program that provides graduates with the tools required to advance into leadership positions. This program also responds to the desires of many who have worked in their respective careers long enough to understand that they need additional skills and training to advance in their careers. The program is called the Master of Justice Administration (MJA) Program.

The emphasis in the MJA program is the application of the principles and concepts of public administration to situations identical to what the modern leader would confront in the workplace. The strengths of the program are the cohort system that requires students to stay within groups as they progress through the 18-month program, the consistent and dedicated support of the MJA staff, a relevant curriculum and top-notch faculty that bring years of experience to the online classroom.

Norwich is proud of its rich tradition of innovation in education dating back to the university's founding in 1819. Norwich University is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc., through its Commission on Institutions of Higher Education. We have decades of experience in delivering distance education to adult learners. We were one of the first to bring women into the corps of cadets, the first private college to offer engineering instruction, the first private military academy, the birthplace of ROTC, and a pioneer in experiential learning.

For those professionals who wish to take advantage of the new opportunities arising in the field of justice administration, the MJA program at Norwich University offers everything necessary—convenience, innovation, interactive classrooms, a manageable pace, and powerful and long-lasting relationships. The future holds the promise of both challenge and distinction.

Sincerely,
