Message from the Director:

Events such as 9/11 and Katrina have brought business continuity management into mainstream corporate consciousness and have fueled tremendous growth in the profession. CNN Money even identified Business Continuity Director one of the "Seven Trendy New Jobs." It is a good time to be a continuity professional.

As in most professions, early practitioners learned their craft through networking with other professionals. These professionals formed associations that defined the common body of knowledge, and provided training and certifications. With new standards such as BS25999, the profession has gained a clear conception of the competencies needed for the continuity professional. The time is ripe for higher education programs to provide academic credentials that will advance the careers of professionals and raise professional standards in business continuity. The Master of Science in Business Continuity Management degree does just that.

As a student, you will gain a comprehensive, well-rounded, and in-depth understanding of all aspects of business continuity management. The curriculum is built on the knowledge that business continuity is not just about planning for a disaster – business continuity requires incorporation of risk management into all levels of an organization and creation of a structure of resiliency that allows the organization to survive and thrive through any event. We also believe that business continuity is less about technology than people, and so you will develop the management skills needed to enter upper-level positions within your organization.

We look forward to welcoming you to the MSBC program at Norwich University.

Sincerely,

John Orlando, PhD
