Military Admissions:

The School of Graduate Studies provides assistance to active and veteran military personnel to obtain maximum educational benefits for which they are eligible. Our Admissions Advisors work with military personnel on a regular basis and are well-informed regarding the unique situations of our military students. We participate in many military financial aid programs such as the Veterans Program, Military Tuition Assistance and Title IV Federal Aid Programs. All School of Graduate Studies programs are either approved or in the approval process for Veteran's Benefits under the G.I. Bill and Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP). If you are eligible and wish to receive tuition assistance under one of these programs, contact your local VA office or education office to receive an eligibility certificate.

While we prefer that you complete the required coursework for your degree without disruption to maintain the integrity of your cohort and preserve the continuity of the structured curriculum, if you are deployed or transferred during the course of your studies, accommodation will be made. Because of the online, asynchronous delivery of our curriculum, many of our military students have been able to continue their studies uninterrupted despite these challenges. Once enrolled in a program, you may always contact your program's Administrative Director to work out a solution to any problem.

Some of our programs also offer graduate-level credit for successful completion of Command and Staff and/or War College courses. Please contact the Admissions Office for your individual program for more information.

Students transferring from other institutions of higher learning are governed by the following transfer credit policy:
  • The Program Director of the degree concerned shall determine the acceptance of specific courses in satisfaction of a Norwich degree requirement.

  • Courses in which a grade of less than B or its equivalent has been earned are not transferable.

  • Grade points will not be transferred.

  • Courses must be no more than ten (10) years old to be considered for transfer credit.

  • Credit will transfer only from institutions of higher learning accredited by the appropriate regional accrediting association.

  • Limits on the amount of transfer credits apply. At least 30 degree credits of those required for the degree must be earned at Norwich. There are exceptions to this policy as they pertain to established articulation agreements with specific institutions (e.g., Command and Staff and/or War College articulation agreements for military students).

  • Academic work accomplished at other regionally accredited institutions will be reviewed for Norwich course equivalency. The posting of transfer credit for approved courses will be undertaken only upon receipt of an official transcript. An official transcript is one that corresponds with the credit granting institution's definition of "official" and is received directly from that institution by Norwich University's School of Graduate Studies.

  • Norwich University complies with VA regulations and guidelines as they pertain to transfer credits.
