Norwich University has built its programs on a guiding philosophy of embedded learning, collaborative knowledge development, continual innovation, and integrated curriculum. This firm foundation assures that all of our programs produce the best possible outcome for you.
Embedded Learning
Learning has traditionally been separated from doing. Even traditional online courses can ask you to step out of your work environment while you learn. The class material may not be used in your day-to-day routine for weeks, months or even years. Yet every study indicates that retention requires immediate application of materials learned. That's why our programs meld theory and practice to produce real-world, lasting learning. Many of our programs employ a case study system to embed learning within your actual work environment. You learn in the context of doing, applying what you learn while you learn it. Not only do you retain what you learn, but you may be promoted within your job for the benefits to your organization, even before your graduation.
Collaborative Knowledge Development
It has been proven that much of our learning is through informal communication with others. We cultivate this informal learning by requiring constant discussion between us and our instructors on how the course material is applied to practice or current issues. We contribute our wealth of experiences to develop knowledge and solutions together. But the collaboration does not end at graduation. We have an active alumni community that discusses new issues in the profession and shares job information.
Continual Innovation
The world is constantly evolving, and a curriculum must evolve with it to stay relevant. While many college courses have not changed in ten or twenty years, we examine our course material after each class to ensure that it is cutting edge. Our curriculum is constantly evaluated against the state of the field to stay at the front of innovation.
Integrated Curriculum
Our programs are integrated as an organic whole, with each course building on the material that has come before. Students move together on a journey that hits all of the important topics of the field. The result is a student-centered, outcome oriented model that ensures you finish with the essential understanding needed to be a master in your field.
